Gorillaz Just Did Their First On-Camera Interview
2D & Murdac Niccals tell all
Gorillaz is gearing up for the release of their comeback album, Humanz, so naturally, the band is doing some press to promote it. For the first time ever, 2D and Murdac Niccals, aka Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, appeared on camera for a live interview with Radio 1's MistaJam, hosted on Telekom Electronic Beats. The whole set was animated, so the only person who looked out of place was the station's host.
During the interview, 2D and Murdac goofed off while talking about Humanz, their first album in seven years. 2D described the process that went into creating the album as "emotional," and said that “fear," "frustration," and "emasculation" played a part as well. "It's been an incredible journey," said 2D. "These people have been in my wake for so many years, we seem to have the most permanent companions in producing such beautiful music."
The band also answered random questions from some of their most devoted fans about things like smartphones, crisps, twerking, Donald Trump, and "The Bath" becoming a meme. To wrap it all up, the pair shared their life mottos—2D's is "live it," whereas Murdac's is "it'll be alright in the end, and if it's not alright, it's not the end."
Humanz drops on April 28 via Parlophone and Warner Bros. Records. If you have 30 minutes to spare, watch the entire interview in the video, above.
