warm weather is all in your head—or really, on your ears.

by MALLORY RICE

The first year that I lived in New York, I remember lying in bed in the dead of winter, snuggled under various blankets and comforters, attempting to transcendentally meditate my way to a warm, sunny beach, if only for a few minutes. Winters here have become less challenging now that I've amassed more of the appropriate gear--coats, boots, and scarves are reserved for the dramatic in Florida--but every now and then I can still use a little token to remind myself of the tropics on a chilly day.

Now that fall is here, I think I'll prepare early by picking up a pair of these hammerhead earrings, which can both remind me of the ocean and threaten to swallow winter whole. Pick up your own pair here.
