How To Get Statement-Making Lips In 5 Steps Or Less

the art of makeup

by nylon x clinique

The statement lip has been a hot ticket in the beauty world for a good minute. Now, with the rise of teenage business moguls, they're only going to be louder, bolder, and more statement-making. While the vampy, dark lip packs a hefty amount of edge, we're huge believers in the classic red lip. Master it, and the world is yours for the taking. It's not as simple as buying a fierce rouge, though. To really make your lips pop, you've got to prep everything around them. Don't worry. It's not as scary as it sounds. In fact, when it's all said and done, it takes just about five steps. Don't believe us? Look no further than Clinique and Alli Simpson. Together, we're here to break it down for you. Pucker up! It's time for some proper lip service.

For Simpson's bold, red look, Malchev prepped her lips with a sugar scrub. Once she used a tissue to remove the sugar, she applied the accompanying red gloss to add shine. The real magic comes next.

Malchev's pro tip: Apply a bright red color + primer all over to really make the gloss pop. To add extra highlight, add the cream eyeshadow from step 1 to the cheekbones for more highlight.
