Aubrey Plaza Is A Comedic Delight In ‘Ingrid Goes West’ Trailer

Social media is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it gives users a chance to show off their awesome lives and aesthetically pleasing surroundings. On the other, it’s also why the term "FOMO" was invented, the concept that everyone is hanging out without you. They just might be, and Ingrid Goes West tackles the highly filtered life we all, sometimes reluctantly, engage in.

The trailer opens with Aubrey Plaza scrolling through her so-called friend’s wedding pictures on Instagram. The same wedding she wasn’t invited to. Sweaty, disheveled, and with mascara smeared down her face, she drives to the wedding (again, that she wasn’t invited to), charges up to the bride, and sprays her in the face with mace. “Congratulations! Thanks for inviting me, you fucking c***,” she says. Hashtag, cray.

The comedy follows this dark trail for the rest of the film. Plaza, obsessed with “lifestyle guru” Taylor Sloane’s (played by Elizabeth Olsen) life, moves to California to become her best friend. As the official synopsis explains: “After a quick bond is forged between these unlikeliest of friends, the façade begins to crack in both women’s lives—with comically malicious results.”

From the looks of it, the results are worth watching when the film hits theaters August 4.
