This year, Laverne Cox has been taking huge strides in the entertainment business. Not only did she land the part of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the Rocky Horror Picture Show revival, but she also helped steer Emma Watson in the right direction when she wanted to start a social media campaign promoting gender equality and taking down the patriarchy. Now, Cox is set to become the first transgender actor to star in a broadcast network television show.
Cox has been cast alongside Katherine Heigl and Steven Pasquale for a lead role in the upcoming CBS drama Doubt. Deadline reports that the series is about how "a smart, chic, successful defense lawyer at a boutique firm starts to fall for her charismatic client who may or may not be guilty of a brutal crime." More details have yet to be revealed, but this is already right up our alley. Cox shared a snippet of her celebration in a clip on Instagram when the news officially broke this weekend.
Orange Is the New Black was only the beginning... We always knew that Cox was destined for greatness, and we can't wait to see how this show boosts her to the next level of stardom. Congrats, Laverne!
