LOOKBOOK: CHANEL RESORT

“versailles in a socialist France.” also, chanel creepers.

Yesterday in Paris, Karl Lagerfeld unveiled his Resort collection smack in the middle of Versailles. Alice Dellal and Vanessa Paradis sat front row, while M.I.A. and Azealia Banks blared through the speakers, and backstage, Lagerfeld told Style.com's Tim Blanks that his theme was "Versailles in socialist France." There were also some major early '90s hip-hop references, including thick black eyeliner, harem pants (in Chanel's signature tweed, of course) and bejeweled chokers that looked thick enough to keep a guillotined head intact. Perhaps our favorite detail was a pair of gold creepers, sporting white embossed soles and enough metallic swagger for a dance solo on In Living Color.
