Over the past few years, the neo-soul genre has slowly creeped out from the periphery to the forefront of mainstream music. Acts like Jessie Ware, AlunaGeorge, Banks, and, to a certain extent, Disclosure have made way for younger artists to rise up. (Mary J. Blige’s triumphant return with last year’s London Sessions LP didn’t hurt, either.) Which brings us to Marin, a 21-year-old honey-voiced Brit that’s on the brink of something big.
After unofficially coming onto the scene with “Prevail,” Marin’s making her big, official hello with “Day 42.” It’s a glittery slow-burner that rocks you back and forth. The accompanying video is just as atmospheric. She sings that she’s been waiting for someone, but really, it seems like we’ve been waiting for her. Marin is cool as ice.
Vibe out to this.
