beauty queen: marion cotillard

the side ponytail is back!

by liza darwin

We thought we'd covered practically every updo in the book a few weeks ago. However, turns out there's one more to add to the list, and it comes straight from the '80s. We're talking about the side ponytail--but before you shudder and point to this or this, wait a second, because the hairstyle just got a seriously chic update. The look comes courtesy of French actress Marion Cotillard, who sported a sleek low side ponytail this weekend at the Marrakech International Film Festival. With a deep side part and slick, shiny strands, it's cool enough to become a wintertime staple. So save the Clarissa Explains It All hair homage for your next theme party, and see how to recreate Cotillard's version below.

DRY IT: AG Tools Sweet Heat Ionic Speed Dryer- $99

The annoying thing about drying your hair is the fact that it always takes forever--that is, when we don't use this dryer. Built with a high airflow, it heats up to 250 degrees and dries hair in just a few minutes. But while it might not mess around, power-wise, thanks to its ceramic body and smoothing finish.

SHINE IT: Redken Glass Smoothing Serum- $20

Work this lightweight serum through your dry hair from roots to ends, and brush smooth.

SECURE IT: Bumble and Bumble Spray De Mode- $15

Make a deep on one side of your head, then take a comb (or brush) and secure your hair slightly off-center at the nape of your neck. Make sure the style stays in place with a mist of this shine-enhancing hairspray.
