An island vacation in the middle of this busy city…

Miss Lily's & Melvin's Juice Box

There’s no sand. There’s no water. But fortunately for all of us, that’s where the disappointments end when sitting down for a meal at the Caribbean retreat known as Miss Lily’s Bake Shop. A little piece of Jamaica itself, the expertly curated diner puts a modern twist on all the classic island favorites while also playing host to Melvin’s Juicebox and an all inclusive record shop that serves as a visual vocabulary to the Caribbean culture. And before we start talking about the shop and all it has to offer (it could use a post of its own) let’s get back to what you all came here to hear about: the food!

With such a perfect menu, deciding on only one thing wasn’t exactly easy. But as the saying goes, when in Jamaica (or when you feel like you’re in Jamaica, rather), do as Jamaicans do. So of course, that only meant one thing jerk chicken. Opting for it on a sandwich, we couldn’t have been more pleased. The chicken was cooked and seasoned to perfection, super tender, and placed between two pieces of slightly toasted bread. The sandwich was accompanied by a fresh, lightly dressed salad and last but not least a Tuff Gong protein shake made from 100 percent organic bananas, blueberries, and strawberries. Everything in the meal added a unique and delicious element of its own to the experience, and when you combine the food with the atmosphere, there really is no reason not to stop by. You can take a look at everything Miss Lily’s has to offer HERE. But be forewarned, once you step inside, the island culture will be hard to shake.
