The Trailer For ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’ Is Here
Get your Tim Burton fix
It was a hard thing to swallow when we were teased with the possibility of a Beetlejuice 2 only to have it turn into a cruel joke. A hard thing. Well, at least, we have this—the trailer for Beetlejuice director Tim Burton’s next ride into eerie, creepy, childhood fun, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
Starring Eva Green as the titular headmistress, the film is based on the bestselling novel of the same name—a fun spin into a world of young people with “peculiarities,” abilities, and physical eccentricities you might also call “superpowers.” Indeed, there’s not a lot to separate the kids at Miss Peregrine’s from the mutants of the X-Men series, except for the lovable tweeness of their setting and, you know, copyright issues.
Joining Green—who has a true gift for playing strange women—will be lead Asa Butterfield (remember him in Hugo?), Judi Dench, Samuel L. Jackson, and Chris O’Dowd. What we’re liking here is the surprisingly glossy, epic look of the film—a tone and style Burton has often shied away from (with the exception of maybe Big Fish). After his more intimate work in Big Eyes and the sad failure of Dark Shadows, we can’t help but be curious about how this one works out. Oh, and we have a sweet tooth for all the dark weirdness you can see in the trailer above.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children arrives in theaters September 30.
