Does Nicki Minaj’s New Big, Fat Diamond Ring Mean She’s Engaged?

Does the new big, fat, honking diamond ring Nicki Minaj flaunted on social media yesterday mean that she’s at last engaged to longtime boyfriend Meek Mill? Before we answer that question for you, please, let us all take a moment out to look at the related posts and gaze at the hardware in question.

Impressive, yes? And, yet, there’s no announcement, no clarity on the issue, in all the lovely captions on all those lovely posts. We mean, if this were any other star couple, you could just go ahead and assume they we’re headed to the alter. But this is Minaj and Mill, a pair who not only blasted out images of a massive stone on the female half’s left ring finger seven months ago, but played cat-and-mouse with the issue through the media. Are they? Are they not?

Friends, we have the answer and it’s something special.

So, this morning, Billboard published an interview with Minaj covering all sorts of fun things—feminism, her upcoming sitcom, Meryl Streep. Recorded before this week, the interviewer asks Minaj about the ring on her finger—the earlier ring Mill gifted her last year.

You’re wearing a diamond on your ring finger.

Yeah. Meek gave me that.

Is it an engagement ring?

He and I are not engaged. But he said he would like to give me three rings before we get married. My birthday’s coming up, and he better get the new one, because he got [the first one] for my last birthday. So let’s see what happens.

The ring she flaunted through social media yesterday is a present for her birthday which happened on Tuesday. But there is more to it than that.

No, Minaj is not engaged to Mill in the way the rest of us on planet Earth understand the term. Rather, she is two-thirds of the way through a three-part process of engagement native only to these two rap stars, a process marked by three massive rings. With her latest bit of bling, Meek and Minaj have merely unlocked level two. 

So, Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj are not engaged. Rather, they are engaging. One more ring to go, everyone. Let's just hope they work this all out before Meek winds up in the clink.
