Pat McGrath Just Sent The Most Epic Cat Eye Down The Runway

The models at Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2018 show got some major wings

Earlier this morning at the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2018 show in Japan, we were blown away by Nicolas Ghesquière’s latest designs. The Japanese-inspired collection featured a special collaboration with designer Kansai Yamamoto and took place at the breathtaking Miho Museum outside of Kyoto, Japan. But what caught our eyes more than the sequined dresses, dizzying prints, and mismatched textures, was the most epic cat eye we’ve ever seen.

Legendary makeup artist and founder of eponymous beauty brand Pat McGrath never disappoints when she’s behind the scenes of a runway show, and today was certainly no different. According to Vogue, the collection was a love letter to the country, drawing inspiration from samurai armor, fisherman prints, and ‘70s Japanese film series Stray Cat Rock (which features a pretty badass girl gang). McGrath sent models—from Japanese actress Rila Fukushima to LV regulars Kiki Willems and Natalie Westling—down the catwalk with some statement cat eyes, paired with a striking graphic brow. McGrath also referenced Kabuki makeup, one of Ghesquière’s inspirations, by airbrushing contrasting, colorful pigments around the eyes and on the cheekbones.

There’s something about a strong cat eye that’s as alluring as it is rebellious, and McGrath really nailed this one. While some may feel it’s too bold for every day, we’ll be busy perfecting this for the next time we go out.
