3.1 Phillip Lim Has Launched An Ethical Capsule T-Shirt Collection
Just in time for Earth Day
This morning, 3.1 Phillip Lim launched a limited-edition capsule collection in honor of Earth Day. The 3.1 Phillip Lim x What Is Missing? line consists of four unisex T-shirts, made of organic cotton, whose profits will benefit four major endangered species.
The designer collaborated with artist and environmentalist Maya Lin to create the environmentally friendly line. Each tee features unique life-sized footprints of four species that are under a serious threat of extinction: the Siberian Crane, the African Elephant, the Black Rhinoceros, and the Tiger. Profits will benefit Maya Lin’s What Is Missing? Foundation, which helps raise awareness for endangered species through science-based artworks. The foundation’s works serve as a wake-up call and a call to action, showing the world the necessity to protect and restore nature, and how.
This isn’t the first time Lim and Lin have worked together. For Lim’s 10-year anniversary Spring 2016 show last September, he had Lin transform New York City's Pier 92 into an earth-friendly runway, complete with 200 tons of toxin-free compost shaped into towering mounds. Lin is the artist responsible for the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Washington D.C. and the Wavefield at Storm King Art Center in New York, both works which have been a source of inspiration to Lim in the past.
Each tee will go for $125, and can be purchased online at 31PhillipLim.com, as well as in NYC and L.A. stores.
