plastics make perfect
is pvc a luxury product?
Plastic Fashion is nothing new. Mary Quant made some racy see-through bikinis in the '60s, jelly sandals became a hit in the '80s, plastic "Birkin" bags hit the street market scene in the '90s (Hermes eventually launched a crackdown and ended that very fun fad...), and Karl Lagerfeld made see-through Chanel bags in 2007.
Alexander Wang followed suit with a PVC version of his famous Rocco duffel in 2009. But the PVC trend died down a bit after that, only to be resurrected pretty much right now.
This week, 3.1 Phillip Lim's new handbag hits stores, and it's made of equal parts leather and plastic. Christian Louboutin's latest summer heels are dangerously sexy, and made almost entirely out of plastic. And Christopher Kane's famous liquid-colored clutches finally went on sale this month, just in case you're still hung up on those.
Here's a quick peek at our favorite plastic fashion right now. Have a look through these see-through accessories in case you're feeling translucent this summer.
