Some days coffee does the pick-me-up trick and some days it straight-up does nada. Try as you might, that caffeine kick you crave leaves you jittery and not much else. Yikes. But when the going gets tough and getting going is nearly impossible, we turn to music. We haven’t done any scientific research on the topic, but the right BPMs have been known to perk our office up like a shot of espresso.
One artist that’s been on rotation as of late? POWERS. The L.A. (by way of New York) duo has an ear for disco-inspired beats, smooth bass lines, and feet-tapping, shoulder-shimmying sounds you can’t help but feel good listening to. Their debut album, Alpha, is due out later this year, with “Heavy” being our latest taste. It’s a slick piece of pop and longing, brimming with seduction. So it should come as no surprise the music they listen to for a good time is just as rich. Who knew pairing OG Gorillaz with newcomer Jain would sound so playful? POWERS did, and our lives are happier because of it.
Get into their world below. And be sure to check ’em out when they and James Hersey hit the road for the NYLON Music Tour this coming spring. Power up, power on.
