According to his representatives, singer, legend, musical genius, and owner of millions of hearts Prince has died at the age of 57 in the recording studio of his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota. No cause of death is listed at this time, but he had been hospitalized for what his people called a case of the flu last week.
The AP tweeted the confirmation:
BREAKING: Publicist: Pop music superstar Prince has died at his home in suburban Minneapolis.— The Associated Press (@AP) April 21, 2016
There’s no easy or simple way to calculate Prince Rogers Nelson’s effect and imprint on music and, to a larger extent, pop culture. For four decades, he skirted and blurred the lines between funk, rock, hip-hop, and even larger issues such as gender, race, and sexuality with a remarkable passion and grace. Like the passing of David Bowie earlier this year, there will be much to discuss given Prince’s legacy. More overwhelmingly, there will be much to mourn.
