This year has been a major year for plus-size fashion, from Ashley Graham starring as the first plus-size model on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue to numerous trend-minded inclusive clothing launches (Beth Ditto’s amazing line, for example). And now, River Island, one of our favorite high street fashion brands from the U.K., is joining the movement. The brand just announced that they’re expanding into plus-size wear next week with the launch of their new line, River Island Plus.
The brand, known for having the perfect mix of on-trend pieces and classic silhouettes, carefully curated their new curvy offering. They incorporated some of their core basics, such as their stretchy skinny jeans and black leather biker jackets, with some of the spring’s hottest styles—we’re talking sexy lace-up bodysuits, chic off-the-shoulder dresses, and a slew of colorful ’70s-inspired prints—as well as a ton of classic and office-appropriate pieces.
The brand snagged model Candice Huffine, who made headlines as the first plus-size model to be featured in the Pirelli Calendar back in 2014, as the face of the campaign—and she’s just the perfect match. She raved about the brand, telling them in an exclusive interview, “I’m a massive RI fan! I always race to store when I get to the U.K. The fact that you’re extending your size range and staying true to what we know and love the brand for, is perfection. It’s clear from the designs that they have been made to suit a curvy woman’s body.”
The 75-piece collection will launch on March 9, and will be available in U.S. sizes 14 to 20. You can expect it to be just as accessible as their current selection, with everything under $120.
