Spice Girls Anniversary

the spice girls turn 20!

by liza darwin

OK, so we don't really ever need an excuse to talk about the Spice Girls. But considering 2014 marks the British girl group's 20th anniversary, let's be real: there's never been a better time to have Wannabe on loop.

Melanie Brown ("Scary"), Melanie Chisholm ("Sporty"), Emma Bunton ("Baby"), Geri Halliwell ("Ginger"), and Victoria Beckham ("Posh Spice") first formed way back in 1994, and the rest? Total music history. Their debut single "Wannabe" dropped in 1996, went straight to #1 in 31 countries, and became the biggest-selling single by an all-female group of all time. No big deal.

What soon followed included dozens more hits, the Spice World movie, a multi-year hiatus, and then brief a sort-of comeback that included performances at Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and the London Olympics, as well as the Viva Forever musical.

But if you ask us, it's about time we get a real Spice Girls reunion...and Mel B thinks so, too. The singer told The Daily Mail that she never actually wanted to split up in the first place.

"The truth is I was always the one that wanted the Spice Girls to continue. I didn't want it to end and I still don't," she said. "Even though I've always had my own career going on, I'm always up for a reunion. Always. It's a shame we're not doing more as a band." Cosign! So can we start a petition for this or something?
