does your sneaker need a heel?

by liza darwin

It's weird, but fashion and sports actually overlap more than you'd expect. Just in the past few seasons alone, we've already seen hiking-inspired high heels, hundred-dollar gray sweatshirts, and Alexander Wang's entire football babe SS10 collection.

The latest in this gymwear-as-high-fashion obsession is the sneaker wedge. Originally pioneered by French designer Isabel Marant about a year ago, See by Chloe, Ash and Jeffrey Campbell have all followed suit. The Marc by Marc Jacobs version just hit Net-a-Porter, and the shoes have us divided.

Sure, with the thick wedge heel, they're undoubtedly more comfy than stilettos. Not to mention, they would look cute paired with a '70s-style flouncy skirt like in the Marc by Marc show. But on the other hand, aren't sneakers the type of item that should stay in your gym locker- not make a cameo on big nights out?

See the styles below, and let us know where you fall in the sneaker wedge debate.

Ash Canvas Low Wedge Sneaker, $140.

See by Chloe Lace-Up Wedges, $345.

Junya Watanabe Comme des Garcon sneakers, $685.

Isabel Marant Perkins suede and leather wedge sneakers, $660.

Marc by Marc Jacobs wedge sneakers, $290.
