#trend: the right stripes
walking the line is more fun.
Before you read this post's title, roll your eyes and say, "Oh, like stripes are a new thing," take a second to peruse our gallery of stripiest looks from spring '14 Fashion Week. What you'll see is a collection of the funkiest, quirkiest outfits around. No sailor stripes here, guaranteed.
Instead there are squiggly lines at Marc by Marc Jacobs, vertical stripes at Rodarte, and kinetic waves at Opening Ceremony. Carolina Herrera opted to try out a patchwork stripe as did Tanya Taylor, while thickening pinstripes were the look at Richard Chai Love. Maybe every New York designer went to the MoMA and got really into those Barnett Newman paintings with the vertical lines (they are really nice to look at!), or maybe a twisted stripe is just the perfect representation of the frenzied mood of contemporary fashion.
Whatever the rationale, we are stoked to see lines of all kinds on the runway because they are easy to wear, look good on everyone, and (bonus!) are the perfect base to mix other prints on top of. Now check out all the looks and tweet us your fave!
