THE REMIX: MAC X CARINE ROITFELD
we take the sultry compact in this collab—and find three other ways to wear it.
There's no confusing Carine Roitfeld's look; the editor and front row staple does a nude face-smoky eye combo like it's nobody's business. So when she teamed up with MAC on a limited edition beauty collection, out this month, we expected to see lots of products that would deliver that very look. But we also wondered: If you're not a French glamazon, is there a way to make it your own? We posed the question to our editors, who spent the morning playing with one of our favorite pieces in the series, the Full Face Kit in Desert Camouflage. With four eye shadows and a cream blush, it quickly became clear that the answer is yes. Here is what we went with--as well as the products we used and our tricks for recreating the look. And if you've already mixed it into your daily routine? Let us know in the comments below what your face chart would look like.
The Editor: Ali Hoffman, web editor
The Look: Daytime Smokey
The Products: MAC x Carine Roitfeld Full Face Kit in Desert Camouflage, Dior DiorShow Mascara, Cle de Peau Beaute concealer, Lipstick Queen in Wine Sinner
The Process: After dabbing a few dots of Cle de Peau Beaute concealer under each eye, Ali applied a touch of Sahara Dust atop the concealer. "I like the way the shadow mattifies the look of concealer so you don't end up with white lines under your eyes in every photo," she says. Next, she quickly curls her lashes and applies one coat of DiorShow Mascara. Using a kabuki brush, she lightly sweeps a touch of the Creamblend Blush across her cheekbones, and then finishes the look with Lipstick Queen's "Wine Sinner."
The Editor: Ray Siegel, senior web editor
The Look: K-Stew in Twilight
The Products: MAC x Carine Roitfeld Full Face Kit in Desert Camouflage, Trish McEvoy Correct and Brighten pen, Dior DiorShow mascara. The Process: First, Ray applied Sahara Dust on her lid and Cactus Thorn in the crease (both shadows are from the compact). She then lined just the edges of her upper and lower lid with the Carbon shadow. "That's my trick--if you line too close to the center of the eye it makes your eyes look small," she explains. Then, she dabbed her Trish McEvoy Correct and Brighten stick in the triangle area between her nose and eyes (once on the left, once on the right) to add a subtle glow, before topping it all of with a layer of DiorShow mascara.
The Editor: Rebecca Willa Davis, executive web editor
The Look: Neon-nude
The Products: MAC x Carine Roitfeld Full Face Kit in Desert Camouflage, AmorePacific Moisture Bound Tinted Treatment Moisturizer, MAC powder blush in Fashion Frenzy, Stila Long Wear Lip Color in Exhilarating. The Process: After applying AmorePacific's moisturizer, Rebecca used the compact's Sahara Dust on her lid and then, with an angled brush, lightly lined her upper lash line with Carbon. With a low-key eye, she then went for some color on the rest of her face. "One of my favorite combinations is hot pink and camel--so I took the nude tones from the compact and paired it with one of my favorite lipsticks, which I was first introduced to backstage at a Betsey Johnson show a few years ago," she says. The result? "It's not sultry--but then, that's not my look anyway. Think of Carine if she summered in Palm Springs instead of Saint-Tropez."
