TLC Reveal Crowdsourced Album Title and Artwork

The album comes out June 30

by Ben Barna

TLC’s forthcoming album has been all about audience participation. The legendary R&B group not only funded their new and supposedly final album on Kickstarter but, last month, they even asked their fans to help them name it. “We need your help,” wrote the group’s manager, Bill Diggins. “Let’s hear your suggestions for the album title! Tionne and Chilli are still undecided so looking to you for inspiration.”

Apparently, TLC nation wasn’t feeling that inspired. Today, the group announced that their new record will be called TLC. That’s right. After asking their fans to help them title their new record, a process that should have generated thousands of possibilities, they went with self-titled. Maybe having that many suggestions had an adverse effect, and drove Tionne and Chilli to choose the most straightforward option available. They also released the cover art and tracklist, both of which you can see below. Last month, TLC dropped “Way Back,” the lead single featuring Snoop Dogg, and over the weekend they dropped another new track, the triumphant “Haters,” which you can listen to below. TLC, which mark’s the group’s first album since the death of its third member, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, drops on June 30.
