It’s been almost exactly a year since a Walmart freight truck collided with comedian Tracy Morgan’s tour bus—an accident that left the 46-year-old in a coma for weeks, seriously injured several others, and killed his close friend and writing partner James McNair. Having just settled a large liability lawsuit with the retail giant, Morgan appeared on the Today show this morning for his first on-camera interview since the incident.
“Bones heal,” said the emotional Morgan, “but the loss of my friend will never heal.” Usually a wild, wily interview subject, Morgan was slow, sad, and incredibly thankful for all the people who helped him along what has a apparently been a very long road to recovery. As for returning to performing, Morgan said, “I love comedy and I can’t wait to get back to her. But right now, my goal is just to heal and get better, cause I’m not 100 percent yet. I’m not. And when I’m there, you’ll know it. I’ll get back to making you laugh—I promise you.” We’re pulling for you, Tracy.
