Video Premiere: Holy Family “Alexander the Great”

transatlantic psychedelic realness.

by Yasmeen Gharnit

No matter the amount of praise and embrace a local music scene gives, there comes a point when an artist must expand their horizons and leave their comfort zone, if not for some personal sanity, then for the music itself. At least, that's what duo Holy Family felt when they uprooted themselves from Sweden to Montreal.

Their debut album, Can't Dance, Won't Steal, Need Some Help is a true testament to transatlantic collaboration, with 5 tracks completed in their shared one-room Montreal apartment, the other 5 tracks completed in Gothenburg. With musical utterances akin to their Canadian inspirations, Wolf Parade and Godspeed You! Black Empero, Holy Family has adopted a warming, wholesome sound filled with paradoxes as psychedelic notes interact with true, melancholic lyrics. Watch their new lo-fi video for "Alexander The Great" below and grab their album, out now.
