Baby Phat's Relaunch Is Bringing Back The Velour Tracksuit

The year 2020 is the new 2000

Yes, it is almost 2020, and no, the world is not ready to give up its early-aughts nostalgia. Kimora Lee Simmons is officially bringing back Baby Phat, specifically its iconic velour tracksuit, just in time for the holidays. The tracksuit is the first release from the revamped brand, which also plans to have more surprise drops over the next few weeks.

Simmons had her own daughters, Ming Lee Simmons and Aoki Lee Simmons, star for the first campaign, which was styled by nostalgia and vintage aficionado Gabriel Held. Both women credit their mother for the birth of early-2000s athleisure.

"Aoki and I grew up walking the runway at the close of our mom's New York Fashion Week shows," said Ming Lee Simmons in an official statement. "We've spent so much of our lives with this brand — it's so cool to bring a fresh approach and to be able to create something for how women and girls dress today. Athleisure got too basic — style got diluted — this is about refreshing the streetwear our mom invented."

Back in June, Baby Phat kicked off its comeback with a capsule collection for Forever 21, which sold out within 24 hours. To top that, it will be releasing another collection for the holidays with the fast-fashion retailer next week, but you can currently shop the new "Sport" drop on babyphat.com.
