Here’s How To Expertly Use These High Coverage Complexion Products For Your Next Fall Look

by Bianca Lambert

When it comes to makeup, great basics never go out of style, and there’s nothing more important to a makeup look than starting off on the right canvas. That’s why New York-based, content creator and style chameleon Aimee Kelly opts for e.l.f. Cosmetic’s trending complexion duo — the Camo CC Cream and Camo Concealer — to her fall makeup arsenal. Here, the beauty maven shares her inspiration and how she’s using these two foolproof formulas to create epic long-wear makeup looks all season long.

"I saw a picture of [one of my favorite celebs], and I just loved the simplicity of this makeup look, so I totally wanted to recreate it," she muses. The reference Kelly is gushing over is a sunflower-yellow eye look featuring rich, golden tones in the inner corners of the eyes. Even with centralized and minimalistic eyeshadow placement, this detail brings an air of glam using a shade from a fall palette. Despite the eyes being the focal point of the look, Kelly believes recreating it starts with a solid base. It not only creates a smooth, even starting point, but also lends itself to help whatever makeup you put on top really stand out.

"For a beauty look, I believe foundation and concealer give [a look the] glam," Kelly tells NYLON. For Kelly, finding products that provides excellent coverage without feeling too heavy is at the top of her list — and she's met her perfect match in these vegan and cruelty-free formulas: "[The] best part is when the foundation and the concealer feel super lightweight on your skin like e.l.f.’s Camo CC Cream and the Hydrating Camo Concealer."

You may say the Camo CC Cream is an overachiever. Its formula not only blends in seamlessly to help even out complexion, it has skin benefits that work overtime. In addition to its lightweight feel, the medium-to-full coverage color-correcting foundation — made with SPF 30 — is formulated with skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to help brighten and even out skin tone, along with peptides and collagen to plump skinny and increase firmness.

With temperatures cooling down, it’s the perfect time to swap your concealer for a more moisturizing formula. The Hydrating Camo Concealer offers up a full-coverage, highly pigmented and crease-proof formula with a satin finish that lasts all day. It conceals, corrects, contours, and highlights without needing to be touched up throughout the day. Additionally, the multitasking formula comes in 25 shades and is infused with rose flower water that has anti-inflammatory properties, and sodium hyaluronate that locks in moisture. Now that you've got the base of the makeup look down, Kelly says complexion product placement is key.

"When I’m placing my foundation, I add it to [my lids] to make sure that my eye makeup color sticks well. [Then] I use concealer, specifically when adding [color] detail on the inner corner of the eyes." To make sure your eyeshadow color of choice truly pops, Kelly has an additional tip for this look: after applying concealer in the inner corner, don't blend it before it sets. “This [creates an extra light base] so it allows the color I place on top to really be radiant and vivid.”

As for trying a new look and getting it just right, Kelly doesn't want you to take yourself — or makeup application — too seriously. "Have fun when applying makeup," she says. "Don't play it safe. Let yourself have fun. After all, I believe makeup is a form of creative expression."
