CoverGirl Releases New Inclusive Makeup Collection

It goes beyond just a wider shade range

CoverGirl has released a new line, its Full Spectrum collection, to cater to the unique skin needs of women of color. The line includes a selection of complexion products in a variety of shades, along with several different types of lip products, liquid eyeliners, eyeshadows, blush, and primer, all formulated to stand out on darker skin tones.

According to Refinery29, the company spent two years developing the products and surveying women of color to find out what they want. Though many makeup brands have finally gotten the diversity memo and expanded often pitiful foundation shade selections in recent years, some still fall tragically short in making products that pop against darker complexions. It's often difficult to find eye and lip products, especially in bold and pastel shades, that don't look faded or chalky against dark skin.

Even as a lighter-skinned person of color, I can't count the number of times I've invested in a brightly colored eyeshadow palette, only to be disappointed by the payoff. It's tough out there, but CoverGirl, who also recently announced that they were officially cruelty-free, is hoping to make it a little less frustrating.

Personally, I've got my eyes on the Defining Moment All-Day Eyeliner in the shade Electric Green, which looks especially breathtaking against darker skin.
