The Furry Godmother's New Collection Makes A Case For Wearing Fur In Summer
From winter staple to summer essential, designer Tiara Peach-Hanlon gives fur a new look.
In fashion, rules are often meant to be broken. At its core, fashion is daring, creative, and bold. For the summer 2024 season, designers are pushing boundaries with sheer blouses, hooded silhouettes, head-to-toe leather, double-layered knits, and much more. Among these, the return of fur stands out, with Tiara Peach-Hanlon’s designs being no exception.
You might be thinking: “Fur has always been a staple in high fashion. Why does it stand out now?” The answer lies with Tiara Peach-Hanlon, Designer, CMO, and Creator of both Furry Godmother Custom Apparel (FGM Bespoke) and The Fur and Leather Centre. She is doing fur differently. Traditionally seen as a high-fashion staple for colder weather and synonymous with elegance, fur is now being reimagined for everyday wear, regardless of the season or occasion.
“Who said you cannot wear fur in the summer?” Peach-Hanlon asks.
This new summer collection is a statement, redefining fur as a year-round, unapologetic fashion choice. The collection showcases the limits of fur fabrications in the creation of skirts, pants, and overall summer attire. “It’s not about the weather; it’s about the fashion,” says Peach-Hanlon.
Her eclectic background in makeup, modeling, creative direction, and marketing all played a major role in helping her challenge conventional perceptions of fur. “The fur industry is new to me, but it’s a challenge I look forward to accepting,” she states. “I wear fur every day in as many ways as possible — from accessories and shoes to jewelry, hats, and clothing. Why not make it custom-made apparel for everyday use instead of just outerwear or special occasions?”
This summer collection showcases not just fur’s aesthetic versatility but its longevity too. “Fur has been overlooked as a year-round textile option. It offers unique qualities like texture and dimension for everyday use in any season. Unlike fast fashion, fur is an investment piece that can last lifetimes and be passed down through generations,” Peach-Hanlon emphasizes.
The industry’s reception has been overwhelmingly positive. Last winter, Peach-Hanlon debuted as a full fur brand in Women's PFW Fall/Winter line, and her rising influence was further highlighted by an invitation to Saga Fur’s Creative Lab, a hub for innovation in fur breeding and auctions. Her successful debut at Women’s Paris Fashion Week sets the stage for her upcoming shows at Paris Men’s Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week.
Peach-Hanlon’s mission is to initiate a fur renaissance, making fur a modern wardrobe staple. With her innovative approach and fearless creativity, she is committed to redefining how we think about fur in fashion.
