Justine Clenquet’s New Footwear Collection Is Inspired By ‘90s Road Trip Movies

Like Thelma & Louise and True Romance.

As summer approaches and the vaccinated numbers rise, many are thinking of ways to break out of their quarantine bubble. Justine Clenquet is one of them. The designer is back with her second footwear collection, inspired by the road trip movies of the ‘90s.

“The shoes are more complicated than jewelry but it's a very exciting project. I am a shoes addict and I always wanted to make shoes,” Clenquet tells NYLON. “I think of my brand as an accessory brand not only as a jewelry brand. I try to connect both because it's important to have a great connection between the two lines. You'll find different rings or Swarovski crystals on our new spring summer collection.”

For Clenquet’s debut shoe collection, which launched in July 2020, the designer looked to the working women of the 1980s. Now she’s hitting the road with her designs, including patent leather Mary Janes and square-toed strappy sandals.

“This collection is inspired by ‘90s road movies so there are lots of references to my favorite films like Thelma & Louise or True Romance,” says Clenquet. “The sandals with square toes are very ‘90s inspired with the baby blue, pink, or carmine color. My favorite model of this spring/summer collection is the Drew sandals, named after one my favorite ‘90s muses Drew Barrymore.”

The Justine Clenquet Spring 2021 collection is available now on the designer’s website, and will be sold on Kith and SSENSE in April. Check out the campaign, below.
