The Middle Part Is Back, Here's How To Wear It

It's kind of a big deal

by Tembe Denton-Hurst

For better or worse, the middle part has returned. It's been slowly making its way back for a while now (say goodbye to the formerly ultra-popular side-part), but this season has solidified that the look is here to stay. It popped up on nearly every runway and street style star, whether it was paired with braids, swept back into a low bun, or rocked with loose curls or waves. "I feel like it's about balance in hair now," says hairstylist Jonathan Rackleff of the trend. "Fashion has gone everywhere so hair needs to be strong and placed."

The trend coincides with the return of sleek hair, a look that harkens back to the early aughts—minus the drugstore gel. The middle part is one of the easiest trends to work into your current look—all you need is a pointed comb—and can turn a simple ponytail into an undeniably chic style.

Easy as it might be to perfect, the middle part might seem intimidating to try—especially if you've been rocking a side part for years—but there are lot of benefits to attempting something new, particularly something that's totally reversible, unlike, say, a dramatic haircut.

Still not convinced? Let these middle part inspo photos change your mind, and give you a few different ways to wear the hair trend of fall 2019.

Or decorate it with creaseless clips.

The low bun is a classic look.

As is wearing it long and straight.

It's literally a mood.

Braids are a whole mood, too.
