Miss USA Apologizes For Mocking Miss Vietnam And Miss Cambodia

"My life, friendships, and career revolve around me being a compassionate and empathetic woman."

Miss USA winner Sarah Rose Summers has apologized for the intolerant remarks she made about Miss Universe contestants Miss Vietnam and Miss Cambodia.

Summers was seen in Instagram videos making fun of the two women for not speaking English. Some people took issue with the fact that she seemed to think that everyone should speak English as well as the condescending tone in which she said her comments.

Summers has since posted a picture of herself, Miss Vietnam, Miss Cambodia, and Miss Australia hugging each other. The caption reads: "@MissUniverse is an opportunity for women from around the world to learn about each other's cultures, life experiences, and views. We all come from different backgrounds and can grow alongside one another."

Getting into the apology, she writes: "In a moment where I intended to admire the courage of a few of my sisters, I said something that I now realize can be perceived as not respectful, and I apologize." She says that she intends on speaking to Miss Cambodia and Miss Vietnam directly. "My life, friendships, and career revolve around me being a compassionate and empathetic woman," she continues. "I would never intend to hurt another… these are the moments that matter most to me."

Miss Vietnam and Miss Cambodia have both also posted the same picture of the four embracing. "I speak the language of love, respect and understanding," Miss Cambodia writes. "I love you my sisters." For her caption, Miss Vietnam says, "We all did the great job on the stage tonight! Sleep well and tomorrow will be brighter, my girls. Hugs and kisses. We are a family #MissUniverse#Sisterhood."
