The long-awaited collaboration between Burberry and punk fashion icon Vivienne Westwood is finally here, and you're going to want everything from the collection. If you didn't know already, grunge is back.
Burberry says that the collaboration "celebrates British style and heritage," and it definitely encapsulates both of the brands' aesthetics. Westwood's signature silhouettes are used to put her spin on Burberry classics, offering pieces like mini skirts, berets, oversized tees, and shorter iterations of the signature trench coat. And, of course, every piece is decorated with the Burberry check print.
The collection offers a progressive approach to gender, and also promotes awareness of climate change. One of the pieces, an oversized T-shirt, has a letter from Westwood printed on it, to raise awareness for Cool Earth, a U.K.-based nonprofit that "works alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation and climate change."
Riccardo Tisci, Burberry's chief creative officer, says in a press release that he has been inspired by Westwood's designs for his whole life. "Vivienne Westwood was one of the first designers who made me dream to become a designer myself," he says. "When I first started at Burberry, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to approach her to do something. She is a rebel, a punk, and unrivaled in her unique representation of British style, which has inspired so many of us."
The campaign imagery was shot by legendary photographer David Sims and stars Westwood herself along with Kate Moss, Ladyfag, Josh Quinton, DelaRosa, Leonard Emmanuel, among others.
