News of the Day:
+ Janelle Monáe is one of Marie Claire's five fresh faces of 2017. The cover story for the May issue focuses on embracing feminism and not being afraid to speak up and includes Aja Naomi King and Emily Ratajkowski among the ranks of powerful women. Monáe has some strong advice on womanhood, telling Marie Claire, "I believe in embracing what makes you unique even if it makes others uncomfortable. I have learned there is power in saying no. I have agency. I get to decide."
+ St. Vincent, CHVRCHES, Mitski, John Legend, and Zach Galifianakis all on the same creative project? Sounds random, but we're in. All of the artists contributed to 7-inches for Planned Parenthood, which includes a series of seven-inch vinyl records and digital downloads, along with a long list of other famous creatives. All of the proceeds will be donated to Planned Parenthood and advocate for proper public health care.
+ Girlpool dropped a music video for their latest single, "It Gets More Blue." The kitschy, fuzzy visuals are countered with sharp lyrics, as Harmony Tividad quips: "The nihilist tells you that nothing is true/ I said I faked global warming just to get close to you."
+ UNIQLO has released their newest collaboration with Disney and Olympia Le-Tan, Minnie Mouse Loves Dots. The collection centers around a retro version of the character and includes lots of polka dots on an adorable selection of T-shirts and bags, the perfect additions to your summer wardrobe.
+ Toro Y Moi has released the track and visuals for his contribution to Our First 100 Days, Bandcamp's anti-Trump compilation. "Omaha" follows the artist from his car to a cluttered apartment hooked up to a Rube Goldberg machine.
Deal of the Day:
TOMS and & Other Stories launch the pair's new collaboration today, featuring four shoe styles and a ready-to-wear collection (which is a first for TOMS). The line was perfected for "dreamers and doers" with flowy dresses and kimonos to pair with the new TOMS styles, which include the Deconstructed Alpargata and moccasin-inspired Palmera Chukka.
