8@8: Your Morning Scoop

Thong jeans just became a thing

Today is...

National LGBT Center Awareness Day!

News of the Day:

+ Things are going down at Tokyo Fashion Week—and the most newsworthy thing to come out of it so far are thong jeans. Yes, you read that correctly. Thibaut put a model down the runway in a pair of jeans consisting of seams, and basically nothing else. The pants, if you can even call them that, were worn tucked into a pair of New Balance sneakers that we definitely wore as kids. Just looking at this gives us phantom pains of inner thigh chafing. Whether you consider this to be a ~look~ or not, we can probably all agree that we are truly living in an age of innovation.

+ Giving us hope for the future of inclusive fashion, Tommy Hilfiger has made moves to launch a clothing line specifically for people with disabilities. Pieces from the line—which will include both men’s and women’s items—will feature adjustable seams and openings as well as magnetic closures, which will make it easier for a person to get dressed with one hand or for a carer to dress the wearer. Hilfiger describes this as a move toward the “democratization of fashion,” which does so much more than the feminist slogan t-shirts that have infiltrated luxury fashion ever could.

+ Ben and Jerry’s has a history of partnering with charities for limited-edition flavors, and the ice cream giant has done it again with their new drop, One Sweet World. This pint will be a caramel ice cream with marshmallow swirls and salted caramel and coffee bits. The sweetest part? A portion of the proceeds from this flavor will go to a charity chosen by the company, which nixes the post-consumption guilt that usually comes with eating a whole container in one fell swoop. This is a limited-batch flavor, so grab a few while you can!

+ Need help picking a Halloween costume? Look no further than Warby Parker. The glasses gurus have become notorious for their creative costume ideas, and this year, they’ve chosen to treat us by sharing their expertise via a texting service. Today through Halloween, you can text "BOO" to the number 68848 and, after answering a series of three emoji-based questions, be surprised with a costume idea curated just for you. If you happen to prefer face-to-face interactions and live in NYC, you can also head over to the brand's headquarters in SoHo for an in-person recommendation from October 23 to 27.

+ Urban Decay just launched its holiday collection, and it’s better than any of us could have ever dreamed. A few brand-new products are set to be released, but, by far, the best thing to come from this collection is the NAKED 4Some Vault, a box set that includes every single NAKED palette, ever. Set an alert on your phone for November 2, which is when the vault (modestly priced at $185) will be available to purchase. If you can't wait until then, get a sneak peek of all the holiday goods here.

Deal of the Day:

We’re all It Girls, and Ventrone Chronicles is helping us look the part. The jewelers recently dropped their Religioso collection, which has since been spotted on none other than model-actress-all-around goddess Emily Ratajkowski. This new line is inspired by Italian imagery, and each piece looks dainty and has a vintage feel—a perfect subtle addition to your everyday look. The pieces are priced at a reasonable $40 to $50, so be sure to get your hands on your own, here
