Alessia Cara’s “Wild Things” Video Is Your High School Saturday Night

Well, ideally speaking

Alessia Cara’s video for her pounding, sweetly anthemic “Wild Things” is here, offering up serious flashbacks to high school Saturday nights out in the ‘burbs. Dunno if this was your experience growing up, but we can clearly remember doing about two-thirds of the stuff that makes this youth-focused clip right off the top of our once-young heads.

After an intro that kind of reminds us of a low-key version of the opening of Lana Del Rey’s “Ride” video, we get some all-too-familiar teen hijinks captured in a style that calls back to the work of photographers Ryan McGinley and Anthony Georgis. Do we remember hanging out in an abused, unfinished basement? Sure. Did we write on our friends’ hands? Yeppo. Did we ever push a car out of our parents’ driveway so they didn’t hear the engine start as we stole it for the night? Um. We’re going to have to plead the Fifth on that. We just don’t remember looking this cool while doing it all (or singing this well).

It’s all a good look backward for us and a better reminder that Cara—who’s still riding high off her single “Here” and her debut album, Know-It-All—is a mere 19 despite that ripened voice of hers.
