Alexa Chung for Longchamp Spring ’14
If I had to list my three biggest fashion inspirations they would be, in order: New Wave French style, Sofia Coppola, and Alexa Chung's flawless ability to wear flats with everything. So you can imagine my excitement when I first saw Longchamp's new spring '14 campaign video starring Alexa Chung herself in the cutest flats dancing across the landscape of Southern France. (But if you can't it was something like this: "OH. EM. GEE!")
Set on the scenic shores of Saint Tropez, the video evokes the beach scenes of Jean-Luc Godard's New Wave classic Pierrot le fou as well as the groovy lake-side dance sequence in Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom. Chung is even styled like an Anna Karina-meets-Suzy Bishop heroine in mod short coats and her signature ballet flats. And if you're wondering, "Hey, where does the Sofia Coppola come in?" let me tell you: Coppola's sun-kissed aesthetic can be felt in the cinematography while her American-in-Paris style is perfectly captured by Longchamp's pastel-hued totes and metallic clutches.
So if you need a little style inspiration to kick up your day, look no further than this video. You can bet I'll be playing it on repeat.
