AlunaGeorge Dim The Lights And Turns Up The Sensuality In “Mediator”

Light some candles while you’re at it

by Hayden Manders

AlunaGeorge is here to make you a better lover. The London duo's latest song, "Mediator," is a throwback bop complete with shimmering strings and horn crescendos. Compared to the other songs lifted off of their forthcoming album, I Remember, "Mediator" is the smoothest, most soulful selection. It sounds like fine wine, velvet, and candlelit lovemaking sanctuaries. It's the vibe 2016 was missing.

Of the album, Aluna Francis says in a press release, "We were going for that holy grail of songwriting." Her AlunaGeorge partner, George Reid, adds, “It was an attitude of 'let's see what else we can do.'" And what they've done is release some of the year's most exciting new music. "I'm In Control" and "Mean What I Mean" both tout stellar duets and provide space to groove. The Flume-assisted "I Remember" is aural candy, and their song with ZHU, "My Blood," is future-leaning and haunting. AlunaGeorge is on to something real special here. Keep your eyes (and ears) on their space.

I Remember drops September 16.
