Arcade Fire Performed A Potential New Song In A Surprise Performance
Outside the Louvre, because of course
The Louvre may be the most famous art museum in the world, filled with masterpieces and artifacts that are centuries old. But that doesn’t mean there's no room for new works. "JR at the Louvre" is a current exhibition at the museum running until June 27 that features the work of contemporary public art artist JR—and on May 26, Arcade Fire’s Régine Chassagne and Win Butler joined in on the fun.
The two musicians were slotted to play a free DJ session in the Jardin des Tuileries, just outside of the museum. While they spun tunes by David Bowie and Sinead O'Connor, they also performed what some say may be a new Arcade Fire song, accompanied by clapping audience members and sparse yet steady percussion. Informally titled “I Gave You Power,” the soulful a capella song is basic at its core, but knowing the band’s signature style, it has the potential to be a major rocking track with the addition of a piano, a guitar or two, and plenty more drums. But whether or not this snippet of a song turns into something more, this video of the live performance makes for a nice, easy weekend jam.
So, how do we sign up to find out where the next impromptu Arcade Fire sesh will be?
