BAND CRUSH: JJ

bundle up for the big chill with this swedish pop twosome.

by liza darwin

January means cold. And despite how bitter the weather is in New York, we can bet it's even more frigid in Sweden, where musical duo JJ is based. So it makes sense that real life couple Joakim Benon and Elin Kastlander's fragile, atmospheric electro-pop sound somehow fits in perfectly with the icy weather outside.

Floaty singles like "Still" and "Let Go" have the same delicate quality of another overseas import (and former touring partners) The xx. But listen to JJ's lyrics and you can tell their breathy tracks have a dark, shadowy edge.

And now you can check them out for free. The twosome just released a brand-new mixtape online, including their own chilly covers of M.I.A. and Jay-Z.

Maybe winter isn't so bad, after all.
