star maps: black and white colorblocked dresses

black, white, and red all over!

by steff yotka

When both Jen Brill and Harley Viera-Newton show up in black and white yoke dresses at a party, you know it's a trend.

We first spied the colorblocked style on the runway at Valentino's fall '13 ready-to-wear show, where models sported long-sleeved mini dresses with lacy white yokes and white collars suspended by sheer panels. Those Valentino styles--like the one worn by Viera-Newton--are available now online as well as plenty of similarly awesome options. Maybe a cashmere turtleneck style from Bloomingdale's like the one worn by Jen Brill is more your scene--or are you more of a printed blouson dress from Opening Ceremony kind of gal? Either way, there's a yoke dress for you! Just make sure to accessorize with red lips and nails like Brill and Viera-Newton did, because nothing goes well with black and white, like a touch of red all over.

And if you're feeling particularly DIY about the trend, we recommend scooping up a scoop neck dress like this one from Asos or this one from The Row and adding a collared shirt or T-shirt underneath for a more textured look.

Check out all our favorite colorblocked yoke dresses in the gallery. There's no such thing as too many.
