What Is This Sexy ‘Hello Again’ Trailer I Can’t Stop Watching?

C’mon lust!

by Hayden Manders

Here's a movie that's sure to push some buttons. Tom Gustafson's film adaptation of composer-lyricist Michael John LaChiusa’s 1994 musical "Hello Again" looks to be equal parts music and sex. It also looks very good. I guess pairing attractive humans dramatically singing whilst getting it on is a recipe for guilty pleasure viewing.

Anyway, "Hello Again" is a musical that I, a former theater kid, have never heard of—which is a bit upsetting. "Spring Awakening" was the jam a decade ago, and this musical looks like its raunchier and, well, happier mother. (Phew!) It's based on Arthur Schnitzler's 1897 play La Ronde, a story built off seemingly random sexual encounters that turn out to be not-so-random in the end. Hello Again takes that concept and turns it into a Paris, je t'aime-type spinoff story, New York, I Love You, weaving together "10 fleeting love affairs" across "10 dynamic New York City eras" in some horny daisy chain circle. Say no more and sign me up. This is Shortbus meets "Spring Awakening," with added Taylor Swift 1989 promo. (Hello, font! See you in court!)

The new adaptation stars a bunch of very nice looking individuals, too. Who knew Rumer Willis could hold her own next to six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald? (Well, probably people who cast her as Roxie Hart in "Chicago.") Whoda ever thunk they'd see McDonald seduce Martha Plimpton? Uh, Grey's Anatomy's T.R. Knight is back and singing, too? And Glee's Jenna Ushkowitz? Hello, ensemble cast. Sam Underwood is serving Perfume Genius vibes alongside Tyler Blackburn (Pretty Little Liars), Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story), Al Calderon (Detachment), and Nolan Gerard Funk from the iconic Lindsay Lohan film, The Canyons, who round out the cast. Hello, new obsession.
