Watch Natalie Portman’s Chilling Performance In The First Trailer For ‘Jackie’

“People like to believe in fairytales”

After Jackie premiered at the Venice Film Festival last month, critics described Natalie Portman’s performance as First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy as “inscrutable and naked, broken but unquestionably resilient, a mess and yet fiercely dignified.” Basically, the Oscar already has her name engraved on it. Now, we’re getting a first look at the Portman comeback everyone’s buzzing about.

The actress doesn’t utter a lot of words in the first trailer, released today. In fact, only a couple of lines are spoken throughout the under two-minute long video. We follow her through heart-wrenching scenes during the funeral, happier scenes as she skips through the field with her children, and a particular shocking shower scene where she’s shown washing off the blood of, what we assume is, her husband. She doesn’t have to say much for viewers to feel the raw emotion she brings to the role.

Watch the debut trailer below. The film will be released in theatres on December 2.
