Karmin Puts Their Spin On “Pure Imagination”

“come with me and you’ll see…”

Gene Wilder inspired a slew of creatives when he sang “Pure Imagination” in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. The song has been covered and remixed plenty of times in the decades that have followed the release, each version capturing the original’s sense of wonder. (You really can’t go wrong with those iconic chords.)

Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan—better known as Karmin—are the latest folks to put their spin on the track. It's, of course, called “Come With Me (Pure Imagination).” The chorus is the same, but Karmin adds their own narrative in the verses. It’s lifted off the duo’s forthcoming album Leo Rising, where each song is based on an astrological sign. In an email to us, Karmin explained that “this is the Leo track.” Leos, if you don’t know, are said to be ambitious and creative leaders. This song dives deep into the creative part of the sign and is a track about finding courage within yourself. Just try. Like the song says, there’s nothing to it.
