Carly Rae Jepsen Takes Lil Yachty To The Store In New Target Video

It takes two

by Hayden Manders

Living pop legend and new queen of #SponCon, Carly Rae Jepsen, duetted with Lil Yachty for Target. Like Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg, Amy Schumer and Tilda Swinton, Jepsen and Lil Yachty's collaboration is as astonishing as it is a head-scratcher. Whodda thunk the creator of one of 2015's best albums, E•MO•TION, would sound right at home with hip-hop's rising stars? Target did, because Target gets (l)it.

The two cover Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock's 1988 song, "It Takes Two." Though it's not overtly courting Valentine's Day shoppers, it most definitely is because (a) timing and (b) it takes two to, you know, make "the thing" "go right" on Valentine's Day, a day based entirely around coupling. (Catch my drift?)

It's fun and it's fine—everything you'd expect from a well-choreographed Target commercial. Now, if you'll excuse us, we've got to make like Carly Rae Jepsen and go the store. (Get that E•MO•TION: Side B promo!)
