10 Musicians Reveal What Inspires Them To Create Magic In The Studio

A tomato candle gets one performer’s juices flowing

by Hafeezah Nazim

This year's Lollapalooza featured some of music's best, including Chance the Rapper, Lorde, and blink-182. And lucky for us, while on the grounds, we had the chance to catch up with some of our personal favorites in between shows to find out what drives them to create magic while in the studio.

We soon discovered that it's totally different for every artist. For rising pop powerhouse Bishop Briggs, she's inspired by "non-magical" things, like heartbreak and disappointment, while NY-based rapper SAINt JHN finds that heirloom tomato candles provide him with the juice he needs to make a golden track.

"Heirloom tomato candles. It sounds wild, but you burn it and it smells like gold," SAINt JHN tells our senior staff writer Hayden Manders. "You ever smell gold? It smells like money." Uh, can we sit in during your next session?

See who we got familiar with, above.
