Louis C.K. Breaks Down Donald Trump’s Lying On ‘The Late Show’
“He’s a lying sack of shit”
As Stephen Colbert pointed out to Louis C.K. during their chat on The Late Show last night, C.K. isn’t really known as a political comedian, or a political public figure for that matter. But last year during the election, C.K. broke protocol and sent out a letter to his vast email list where he called Donald Trump “Hitler” and “an insane bigot” and begged his fans not to vote for him. But now that Trump has been in the White House for 74 days, Louis C.K. has had time to reflect on those comments, and he admitted last night that he regrets using those words. “I thought he was some new kind of evil,” C.K. told a smiling Colbert. “But he’s just a lying sack of shit.”
C.K., who appeared on The Late Show to promote his new Netflix special, went on a riff that could have been pulled from one of his sets, about the different degrees of liars. There are people who lie once in a while, he explains, and people who have trouble staying within the boundaries of truth. Then there are flat-out liars, and then there’s Trump, who, according to C.K., is in a category of liar all by himself. “He’s just a gross, crook, dirty, rotten, lying sack of shit,” C.K. said to thunderous cheers from the audience. But the segment’s most poignant moment came when C.K. and Colbert had a brief and surreal exchange with a Trump voter in the audience, who C.K. called the “victim” of Trump’s lying because he fell for it. Watch the whole thing above.
