Sofia Coppola Made A ‘Girls Gone Wild’ Parody On ‘The Beguiled’ Set

Starring Elle Fanning and Kirsten Dunst

With The Beguiled finally on the verge of hitting theaters, Sofia Coppola found herself on James Corden’s couch the other night promoting her upcoming film. Corden, being the well-researched talk show host that he is, points out to Coppola that movie takes places in the 1860s. This is correct: The Beguiled is about what happens when an all-female boarding school, whose residents include Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning, takes in a wounded Civil War soldier to heal him back to health. “It turns the whole house upside down,” Coppola says.

Setting his guest up like the pro that he is, Corden then asks Coppola what she and her cast would do on set to blow off steam. “We were all together in this house shooting every day, and the girls in corsets,” Coppola said. “One day at lunch, Kirsten and Elle were having water in Solo cups, which reminded us of Girls Gone Wild.” She is, of course, referring to the notorious franchise that basically depicted college-aged women drinking and acting raunchy on camera. “So we imagined what Girls Gone Wild [in] 1860s would be. I shot a few things on my phone,” Coppola said. That footage was then sent to Corden’s people at the Late Late Show, who took it upon themselves to edit it together, and, well, have a look for yourself.
