‘The Greatest Showman’ Trailer Unites Zac Efron And Zendaya

It’s about time

The trailer for the upcoming biopic The Greatest Showman has it all: dazzling dance numbers, rousing moments, a beaten up Zac Efron, and Zendaya on a swing. What it doesn’t have is any dialogue from female characters. Besides many appearances from both Michelle Williams and Zendaya, the only female voice is the one we get in the unexpectedly cheesy song that runs the length of the trailer.

The Greatest Showman is a rare creature. Although it has the feel of a classic story, it’s actually an original musical, a genre that was revived with La La Land and might pick up even more momentum if this movie becomes a hit. It tells the story of a down-and-out family man named P. T. Barnum (sound familiar?) who turned his luck around and essentially changed entertainment when he started his own show, which became the legendary Barnum & Bailey Circus.

But The Greatest Showman is about much more than the founding of a circus. As the end of the trailer points out, this is about the creation of all of show business. It’s also about embracing what makes you special, not being like everyone else, and watching Zac Efron and Zendaya make out. The Greatest Showman hits theaters on Christmas Day.
