It’s Called ‘The Lure’

In a Hollywood climate that celebrates sequels and reboots, a truly unique idea has become the rarest of commodities. But every so often, a film comes along that is so imaginative, so bold, and so daring, that it reminds us just how awe-inspiring this medium can be. A Girl Walks Walks Home Alone At Night did it, and so did Beasts of The Southern Wild, both of which exploded onto the scene at Sundance. So it's only fitting that the latest game-changer also emerged from the shimmering peaks of Park City.

The Lure, a Polish film from director Agnieszka Smoczynsk, can best be described as a feminist-mermaid-musical-horror-love story. But it's more than just ultra-stylized pastiche. Much more. Heads didn't just turn whenThe Lure premiered at Sundance—they exploded. It’s an exuberant, strange, and occasionally terrifying fairytale for people who still believe in them, and it’s going to be one of the most talked about movies of the year.

If you don't believe us, look no further than the just-released, very NSFW first trailer.
