Beauty
A look at the creator's rise in the industry.
Since starting out on YouTube, Jackie Aina has consistently challenged and changed beauty industry norms. At the age of 21, she started uploading videos, sharing her life with the world. Years later, and she's more popular than ever. Here's how she's used her brand to make a mark on beauty:
Aina joined YouTube in her early twenties. Initially, her goal was to use the platform as a means of self-expression. Aina told Fashionista that she was miserable then, and took the advice of a friend to start a channel, saying she was known for having “these colored eye shadows and for doing all these really bold looks with my dark skin”
She previously explained her intentions with YouTube, telling Fashionista that it's about more makeup. "I want people to walk away feeling like they learned something," she said.
In the summer of 2020, Aina announced the launch of FORVR Mood, a lifestyle brand. Aimed at "changing the narrative," FORVR Mood notes that "Black women deserve more than perseverance and strength..Black women deserve luxury"
Speaking with Paper, Aina noted that her calls for inclusion aren't exclusive to her work in beauty. "There's no such thing as too much representation because we've never seen that before. I'm really glad to be entering a new space and also reframing the conversations about Black womanhood," she said.
In 2021, Aina further expanded her lifestyle offering with the launch of "Lavishly Jackie," a self-care, home and luxury content vertical across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and blog on JackieAina.com.
There's no word, yet, on what Aina might work on next, but she has hinted that more is coming. She previously expressed a desire to release a cosmetics line, and her work on YouTube continues. One thing is for certain, fans will certainly stay tuned in for more.
